For the Meat Sauce:
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 (24 oz) jars marinara sauce
- 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Cheese Layer:
- 32 oz ricotta cheese
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For Assembly:
- 1 package no-boil lasagna noodles
- 4 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brown ground beef with onion and garlic. Drain excess fat. (Jack loves helping to break up the meat!)
- Add marinara sauce and seasonings to meat. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Mix ricotta, eggs, parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper. (Aliana’s favorite job is stirring the cheese mixture!)
- Layer in 9×13 dish:
- Thin layer of meat sauce
- Noodles
- Ricotta mixture
- Meat sauce
- Mozzarella
- Repeat layers
- Final layer: Extra cheese and parmesan
- Cover tightly with foil and bake 35 minutes.
- Uncover and bake 15 more minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Rest for 15-20 minutes before serving. (The hardest part – it smells amazing!)
Notes:
- Don’t skip the resting time
- Season each layer well
- Georgia’s tip: add fresh herbs between layers
- Catrine’s secret: a pinch of sugar in the sauce
Storage Tips:
- Cool completely before storing
- Cut into portions for easy reheating
- Double wrap for freezing
- Thaw overnight in refrigerator
