Marry Me Toffee Pudding

Ingredients:
8 oz pitted dates, chopped
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup toffee bits
Toffee Sauce:
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup heavy cream

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch square baking dish.
2. In a bowl, combine dates, boiling water, and baking soda. Let sit for 10 minutes to soften.
3. In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract.
4. Gradually add flour and baking powder to the wet mixture, then fold in the date mixture and toffee bits.
5. Pour batter into the prepared dish and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
6. For the toffee sauce, melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in brown sugar and cook until sugar dissolves. Slowly add cream, stirring constantly until thickened.
7. Serve the warm pudding with a generous drizzle of toffee sauce.
